All-Star Justin Verlander got off to a very rocky start tonight allowing five runs in the first inning.  Verlander was hammered by the Baltimore Orioles with a lead off home run and what seemed like an endless stretch of hits off the Orioles bats.  Verlander returned to the dugout having a hard time explaining what was going on to the skipper. Verlander got support from his team mates when they scored three runs in the first inning. He then returned to the pitching mound to give 7 scoreless innings, 119 pitches total, 84 for strikes.  Marcus Thames looked great in left field, Cabrera looked fresh at first….there were no errors…the Tigers thrilled the fans over the next few innings getting the team back to a 5 run tied game in the 9th. Clete Thomas finished the game with a walk-off home run that sailed 425 feet.  Thomas thought it might have been a triple… but the ball carried and the crowd erupted.  Thomas, who was returned to the minors, earlier in the season to 'shorten his swing' had hit two homeruns in one game vs. Baltimore earlier in the season.   His teammates went literally wild with the walk off and the first place Tigers breathed a huge sigh of relief.
